MEDevice Africa is a Kenyan-based MedTech innovation firm committed to bridging the gap between healthcare challenges and context-appropriate technologies. Our efforts are aligned with deep tech innovation in hardware and digital health, responding to complex systemic gaps through context-driven solutions.

We maintain strategic partnerships with public hospitals, regulators, and incubators to ensure our technologies are locally grounded and globally competitive.

History

MEDevice Africa was founded in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. In response to the urgent need for medical equipment, MEDevice developed a ventilator, Afrivent, to support the treatment of coronavirus patients. The functional device did not get to market but we are leveraging the technology and ecosystem lessons learned to develop contextually appropriate devices that can be successful in the African environment and market.

Key Achievements

Landscape mapping research, surveys and interviews to better understand capabilities and trends in development and manufacturing of medical devices and Point of Care diagnostics in East Africa.
Established a MedTech R&D unit that is concentextuallizing and developing contextually appropriate medical technology.
Developed an internal IP advisory unit with certified staff members, including a WIPO- accredited trainer, to support innovation protection and licensing.
Established strategic collaborations with local universities, healthcare providers, and design hubs.
Developed a deep network of consultants and collaborators to enable fast on-boarding of client projects.
